Wheat Varieties

Seed Rate

• Unlike conventional practices the requirement for seed under zero tillage is found to be around 25% higher and the optimum seed rate is 150 kg/h

Seed Treatment

• For preventing loss due to birds and loose smut, seed should be properly treated with Vitavas,and Bavastin at the rate of 2.5 g/kg of wheat seed

Weed Control

• Weed infestation is relatively less due to non-availability of nutrients from well placed fertilizers near to the wheat seed

• To control both narrow (Phalaris minor) and broad leaved weeds following weedicides could be used:

1. Sen cor @ 200-250 g/ha in at least 500 liters of water 30-35 days after sowing

2. 2-3 leaves stage of Phalaris minor, which never is earlier or Leader (Sulphasulfuron) @ 30/ha in at least 500 liters of water 30-40 days after sowing

General Instructions

• The harvesting of the rice should be done near to ground and the left over stubble should never be more than 15 cm in height

• Before undertaking sowing the drill should be calibrated for seeds.

• Sowing depth should be 5-7 cm

• To prevent choking of drill granular form of fertilizer should be used

• Flat fan or cut nozzle should be used for spray of weedicides

• After sowing first irrigation should be applied after 15-20 days

• For preventing choking during sowing seeds and fertilizer pipes should be monitored properly

• Do not attach planker behind the Bharat Zerotillage machine

• Do not worry, if after sowing, the seeds remain visible in the slit made by zero-till drill. All seeds will germinate and there is no need to cover them
